this is lavold silky tweed in black with a gray fiber running through it and slubs of blue and rust and gray. did i say i love it? oh i do and hoped it would be this color you know? it was hard to tell from the swatch online but i was hoping for something to go with my new fryes and this is it! it's a lovely yarn too, silk, cotton merino, and viscose in just the right amounts. i thought it would make a great marilyns not so shrunken cardigan and it's the recommened yarn for that pattern. imagine that , i'm knitting from a pattern, that someone else wrote and i'm using the yarn they suggested. what next? i can't wait to start it but i'm making headway on my antique lace so i think i'll plug away at that for a bit more. i also have to print the pattern and my printer ink has run out so i'll order some and when it comes in the mail then i'll start this project! i won't be needing this sweater for a while, even tho it's appears that fall has arrived i don't think that's the last we've seen of summer yet! and i hope not i have a kayak to paddle before the snow flies! we also looked at these kayaks, i bought one, the guy loaded it on the roof rack, the child jump seat was won on ebay and paid for with the proceeds of my old jeans and is on it's way. next stop the paddle store! then on to the water with it. i can't wait to try it out. this was a great deal and it's a great boat and should last us a long time and bring us a great many adventures with the grandaughter and with the boy who will be four this month . how did that happen? how did the two year old get to be four? and how did i get to be fifty four. and where did all this gray hair come from. well i'll take some more pics of my boat tomorrow and post them so you can see her in all her glory. mean while no knitting was done today but once again hospital knitting is scheduled for tomorrow...bright and early too so goodnite...sleep tight...don't let the bed bugs bite and hopefully hobo ate all those crickets or i'll be hearing from them all night! talk about the cart before the horse!!! but since i'm saving so much on the boat and on the jump seat i think i'll splurge and buy the paddles at dicks in robinson and get some cool color to match my new boat! removed from her needles! left to lie in a pile of yarn in a hat box! that's ok tho it was destined never to be, for me anyway, didn't really like the yarn i substituted, loved the pattern and the stitch was fabulous but it was too big so...moving on. i'm finished with the body of my new sweater, have started one sleeve and have also started the edge. one repeat only though. which brings me to this question...who invents lace anyway? is it the criminally insane? i think it must be and they do it just to mess with those of us who will never see the inside of a prison cell. as i was doing this 6 row repeat on 9 stitches i was thinking why? how? who? but isn't it glorious when you get there! and how! i love this book. the guy bought it for me to surprise me one day for no apparent reason and i was thrilled. i've never used it before this except to look at it and page through it millions of times and to dream but this is the first time i've used one of the designs so i look forward to seeing just exactly how it is that i will attach this to my sweater. news at eleven. speaking of news the coast is flooding again and our weather is suffering with andrews passing. my brother and family are in the outer banks...bummer. the guys bike is back home hopefully good as new. the veterans car is totalled and mine is being used as a loaner for the week until the insurance claim is settled and he buys a new one. i think it's going to be a mitsubishi lancer but we shall see. i'm heading to mom's today to picture stuff for ebay. she's moving and consolidating and obsessing about all of the above so off i go to pick out some beautiful stuff for my mantle! and as soon as chewy growled and barked and howled at the siberian she settled down and faced the fact that puppies just can't be intimidated by bratty huskies! so our first meeting went well and we'll surely have another this weekend when the grandaughter comes over. she's been waiting and waiting and waiting to meet this little girl! i hear they call her chewy bear! later, love g

p.s. oh yea and the guy took like three little movies of this girl growling at the siberian and wrestling a stick and falling over herself but i deleted them from my files thinking they were out of focus pics! we had another fun filled weekend. and not just last nite when we ate thai food and went to see "little miss sunshine" at the manor. it's a hit so don't be a fool and miss this one. i cried i tell you, cried i laughed so hard. it was hillarious and hysterical and fun. a definate thumbs up! so back to the flying part, me and the guy and friends kathy and phil rented kayaks and paddled down the yough today. when i spotted this rope hanging out of a tree the kid in me couldn't pass it by. yep that's me flying out of that tree, and it was fun! we were already soaked to the skin from getting caught in some pretty hard rain so i figured why not. right about now i can think of one good reason...i smell like the river! this is what the guy is doing this morning. this yucky mildew on the eaves is the price we pay for a lovely shady spot in our back yard. the trees make shade which makes moisture which makes mildew which means that the only way to kill it is CLOROX so the guy is on the roof with a mask, clorox, a compressor and a gun thingy that uncle dave gave him and soon the eaves willl be sparkly white agian and only in need of paint! but that's another project! hmm wonder what the veteran is doing later this year??? the dogs are locked inside with me and i'm supposed to be cleaning the inside of the house but here i sit playing around with my camera and taking pictures of my new sweater in progress!!! it's a neutral color as you can see. i call it antique yellow, rowan all seasons cotton, a blend of cotton and poly i think. it should hold it's shape. this will be a cropped sweater, bolero style shaping in the front with a wide knitted lace border, one from nicky epstein's "on the edge". the border will be on the sleeve edge and the entire edge of the sweater in lieu of ribbing. i think it may have a button, or maybe not, who knows what mood i'll be in when i finish! oooh gotta go the guy is jumping on the roof which must me he needs me for something! ok i'm back now, i knit most of this while the guy was in the operating room swallowing tubes to stretch his esophogus to accomodate food which reminds me we have another date to do more of the same and i have to get a mindless knitting project ready to go. i assure you it will not be the lace border of this sweater, lace is not mindless, for me anyway! how about some knee socks in blue and mauve stripes made of cotton stretch yarn. i ordered lots of that when i made the lacey knitted socks from ik and the blue would coodinate with my new blue frye boots! yep i finally bought me some frye harness boots, been lusting after them since my baby brother bought his harley many moons ago. his fryes were the obligatory black of course and he wears them to this day, even tho the harley is long gone, wears them with a suit if he ever has the occasion to wear a suit! or...i do have a pair of socks started that i could continue with or...i have more regia self patterning yarn in blue for socks for the guy. and...there's the purple, well really lavender, alpaca i have for a scarf for moi... lots to do! good thing it's the knitting season! and speaking of knitting...ATTENTION ALL SEXY KNITTERS!!! tick tock time's a wastin' and it is now time to vote for the september sexy knit pattern! NOW! later, love g

it's friday again...

and what a relief! this week i didn't spend so much time at work but still i sure am glad it's over. wishing my life away one week at a time! monday was call off day and a bike ride to the castleman river where we saw no suitable place to put a canoe in the water but where i did see this little guy. what color huh? dragonflies they are quite prevalent near our rivers! and quite pretty as well! there were two or three of these little ones flitting about but it was quite hard for me to capture them in detail unless they were sitting still and even then, not so great. new camera coming right up! tuesday the guy went under the influence of anethesia and then drank barium and now has plans for another similar day next week! well that wasn't the news he wanted to hear i tell you. but you do what you have to. me and the nephew did a little shopping last nite. just for old times sake, you know he and i have been shoe shopping for most of his sixteen years! it became a tradition when, a few years ago, he wanted some certain type of shoe for his birthday so we went malling to find it and the rest is history. we usually have dinner and a shoe shop at least once a year! this year we left out the dinner and went to the mall as we had more than shoes to shop for. madden 2007 is out man you gotta get that before it too late! so we did some shoe shopping then video game store shopping then clothes shopping because school is right around the corner for him, tuesday it starts, then we called it a night! boy have times changed. i remember when he was in between a boys and a mens shoe size and we walked the mall for hours trying to find timberland boots! now he's a healthy size 10.5 and has the height to match! whew taller every day! and driving soon too, permit is just around the corner and hopefully aunt gay will be taking him out for a few drives to reach his goal of 50 hours of drive time! i haven't done that for a long while! so my birthday shopping is done til november, when i buy myself a camera, the food shopping is done, the laundry is done, tomorrow we have a few things to do around the outside of the house and the weekend is ours to enjoy. i think i'll go clean the tub and vacuum the floor so i'll be ready for tomorrow, after i sleep in first! later, love g

bob dylan, a girl, and her coach...

and me and the guy, we were all at falconi stadium last nite. bob dylan of course was the star. me and the guy, we were just there to have the time of our lives! what fun! what great sounds! dylan is not old news, he's new news and the tons of teen age girls and guys in attendance was telling. one young teen was gushing when she bumped into her old high school coach "oooh you used to coach me, and you're here and i'm here and my dad is here !!!" he looked surprised too and then he said "i proposed to you?" "noooo you coached me!" well maybe after all the loud music right next to the stage and the beer and the contact high coached sounds sort of like proposed huh? anyway, gone is the nasally whine the son-in-law does so well. bob, he's grown into his voice and he was quite the veteran entertainer. how does it feel to hear bob dylan himself sing all along the watchtower? like we were in the presence of an icon and we were but we were in the presence until 11:00pm then in the presence of traffic and then on the highway home for 45 minutes so we didn't get to see our own eyelids until well after midnite, way too late for us old folks. can you say call off work today? well, that's what personal days are for! and for bike rides on beautiful sunny mild temperature days! today was for fun, tomorrow is for something else though...we have a date with the doc at 5:00 am! in the morning! well that's really the good news, that means we won't be there delayed for hours behind every emergency that comes along. so tomorrow is for doctoring and for knitting in the waiting room! oh and look at me at spc, i'm really famous now!!! see ya after all this and that. later...love g

i've had a weeks worth of those...

horrible days. really. i can't even begin to describe. there was all the travel and the training and the traffic and the public transportaion and the nausea and the sheer exhaustion and the nit nit nit pic pic picking! and i think it's cool. as i think these new riding boots are cool! ok so they're not riding boots. do you believe i didn't even know what chuck taylor 's were until a month ago. i was reading wendy's blog a while back and she talked about knitting a skirt to be worn with chuck taylor's and all i could think of is what the heck are chuck taylor's. so i looked it up and that's the only reason i knew the correct and hip name of what it was i wanted to wear on my feet while riding the bike. they cover my feet and ankles and protect from the heat of the bike and they can be worn with bare feet in summer which my boots (and i have thousands of pairs of boots) cannot, without giving me blisters anyway. so this is my solution. i'm starting a new trend! and did i say i got these on the clearance rack for 15 bucks! you know i love a bargain and i love these! and speaking of trends...i finally finished my mom's belt which i have named "mom's so trendy"and the free pattern, if you want to make one is here! it's a knitted belt that is sort of hippie sort of trendy and i haven't seen one quite as nice as this if i do say so myself! so get yourself a ball of string and knit one for yourself! later...love gay

progress has been made...

on several fronts! progress! that's all you can hope for most times, progress huh?
i am almost done with mom's belt, really. i know i've said that before but it only needs a few more inches as most of the length from the waist will be fringe so it should be done this week and a pattern for the belt posted on my patterns page. the sweater, the as yet un-named sweater is still not any more done than it was before, still sleeveless and dreaming of sleeves but i have purchased buttons and sashes. i love these tiny irridescent buttons. they are exactly what i was imagining when i went shopping for buttons. i love when that happens! and i love love love the turquoise lace sash. i think i love the lace too too much but i couldn't leave the stripe at the store so the stripe will be a belt with jeans or maybe with the teal wool sweater/jacket i have planned. hmmm waist length, single botton, embellished sleeves. i also have big plans for the fad classic i started, i love it's crochet like stitch, and i plan to make it a midriff length and add a mid thigh length silk skirt to it, to be worn over jeans. should be trendy and i have to keep up with the trends so no one guesses how old i am! ha! double ha ha! that would require a lot of hair dye and i'm not doing it! not never! i've come to love the texture of my hair without chemicals and anyway i earned this gray! and speaking of both youth and progress the guy bought a new bike and it is sweet! it is gorgeous! it sounds like thunder! more bike pics here. i think it will keep him young and take off some of the years that his illness and surgery added. and he likes it! she doesn't just do this on friday either that's a regular habit, some people are just indecisive i guess! for a dollar your can check out what's under the skirt! and for a quarter you can leave insults on any day of the week, insults about the tan are only nickle. we have to amuse ourselves somehow and she is the doctor after all and spends much of the day listening to people vent and bitch (people like me lately) so she needs more diversions than the rest of us! so anyway here's what's under the skirt. you get to see this today only not every day guys! my laryngytis turned into an earache and a sore throat and i have little white things growing on my tonsils again, didn't i just have that? i must take time to have a full lunch half hour and a break here and there and my goal this week is to do everything on time. like the selfportrait challenge not work what do ya think i'm nuts! my goal is also to finish my mothers belt this week and my new sweater which by the way i bought little glass buttons for (they are so so cute) and some lace and ribbon (i couldn't decide which i liked) for a belt, all she needs is sleeves and a name! can't wait to show you but right now i have a floor to scrub and a bike ride to take and some flip flops to shop for and i have to eat some food and add some more pattern notes to the blu smock and i must show you my friday self portrait. i've gotten into the habit of snapping myself on the way out the door in the last minutes of every friday. but that's for another post i guess two is the limit her! i finally got my self portrait for the week done and how cool is this? check it out and all the others of course at the selfportrait challenge! i was way too busy this week , canoe trip, all that cooking, did a little shopping for the grandaughter and had a birthday dinner for my baby boy who's 30 this year! so the monday spc turned into a wednesday nite spc. my voice is back and i'm sure everyone is happy about that and i was nudged to start writing my pattern for the blue smock by a fellow sexy knitter who wanted to start knitting it..here goes. i published it, in part, on gaysknits/patterns page. you remember the blue smock? yea...this one. more pics on gaysknits/fashion statements! it was knit a little while ago from berroco/denim silk and i loved the fit and comfort and drape of it. so i flashed a pic of it on the sexy knitters and a few people expressed interest in knitting it. i have not completed the pattern notes but i will and if anyone wants to knit it they can ...or not. i have another in the works but seriously i can't find the time to work on it. yea yea you're sick of hearing that. but the guy and i have a mortorcycle to shop for and then there's ebay and self portraits and camera shopping and work is a drain these days but then there's the casual friday pics i want to start posting. and by casual i do not me me and the guy sitting around in our underwear! but back to the blue smock. i wanted a semi gather on the sleeve like a blouse i have but it didn't quite work out as i wanted and then i saw this lovely pattern and the name of it is rusted root i may have to knit it just because of that! and speaking of rusted root the guy is listening to them as we speak hmmm maybe that's why i thought of all this anyway! later...love g

did you ever...

feel like the carpet was pulled out from under you ever time you stepped on it? like no matter what you do someone is always going na na na na na naaa? like you're not appreciated? like nothing fits anymore? well i feel sorta like that today and yesterday and the day before that and...well you get the picture. i've been so busy so i've done no knitting and no photography and no spc this week to date and i had a good one planned too! i went canoeing on sunday and took as many pictures as i could but let me tell you taking pictures on a moving motorcycle is easier than taking pictures on a canoe that you are trying to paddle. just not happening! so i have a few good ones but this one is my favorite and the guy took it at my request. this is my favorite activity in the world...floating. my mom taught me to float on my back when i was a girl and i can do it for hours and hours, seriously for hours. at no other time am i just being except when floating on my back in the water. i have no restrictions, no ties, nothing under or over me and i'm free to float and float and float. today i've been floating through my life with larygyntis...again. later... love g

what? no camera!?!

today is casual friday and me without a camera. bummer! it would've been right at home with me today! the guy and i woke up at the crack of dawn to ride out to greensburg to be a part of a group of 85 motorcycles who rode to meet up with 85 or more motorcycles and to ride in to pittsburgh, oakland and then to schenely park for thunder run 2006, part of the vintage grand prix. we did two laps around the race course, there were an estimated 300 bikes, mostly harley's. loud shiney beautiful harley's. smelled like exhaust sounded like potato!
the ride ended in a picnic grove with a pig roast and all the ice water you could drink! we came home early in the afternoon, around 2:00 to relax and enjoy our new air conditioning we surrendered to the heat yesterday but when we put the old window ac unit in and turned it on rrr, rrr, rrr oops,no motor, not running! so we went to lowes and bought a bigger, better one.
then we went to the movies to see cars and to have pizza and a game of air hockey with the daughter and the kids. the new air conditioner is in the window and the old one is in the big box and we're cool & smiling now! so here are todays casual friday pics
and more biker pics will be coming later in the week. and one more thing...i went to circuit city tonite and played with the camera of my dreams and ooohwweee i think i've sold myself on it! and happy to announce that the self portrait contributers picked another one of my photographs as a favorite this past week!!! this is my third to be picked and people have sent lovely comments and have enjoyed my stories so that's a good thing cause i like the telling and the stories really are the self portraits for me! check it out to see some great expressions of self and speaking of expressions i read a real cool article in the pittsburgh post gazette today about a traveling exhibit of photographs of women in what they consider dressing for success, the photos were taken in five cities from alaska to mississippi, pittsburgh being one of those cities. the exhibit is called "Trapping: Stories of Women Power and Clothing" it's not what you think so while you're checking things out check the article out here. any one care to visit the exhibit, it's at cmu campus until aug 4...and while you're there you can see the art pole in but i have always wanted garden clogs and have NEVER wanted to spend the way too much money everyone wants to charge for garden clogs. and especially now that crocs are the rage, have you seen crocs? how could you not have seen crocs, sure they're cute and comfy and they were a novel idea maybe, three years ago and now they are on everyones feet from here to mars and i mean mars the planet not mars, pa. but now that they are so popular regular gardeners are hard pressed to find the things for less than forty bucks. to walk in mud! filthy dirty mud! that really does not wash off no matter how hard you squirt it with the hose, even on firemans spray, which sends any item not nailed down flying through the air until it lands in the stupid neighbors yard, and by type='text'>pirates and sharks n' at

just paying tribute to the south side! the guy and i and friend phil went to the south side for an adventure, here we are in front of the cheesecake factory.
we were to be four but unfortunatly kathy was otherwise engaged so we were three today. the south side works was lousy with pirates and sharks...really...i'm serious! our destination was r.e.i outdoor adventure store, we went looking for cool outdoor gear and they have lots of it there. we also found the inspiration there to plan a canoe trip this for later this month, i'm excited about that, i've always wanted to canoe and never have, and we have a canoe...what's up with that, but on july 23rd we shall canoe! i didn't just find a cool headwrap for motorcycling or a wicking tank top for hiking or a surprise for the guy's birthday later this month but i also found a good old friend lurking in men's underwear! i guess i'm not the only one sleeping in mens underwear! anyway we exchanged email addresses and perhaps, hopefully, we'll be seen together for some fun! the south side works has some serious shopping and i'm just the girl for the job, i'll be planning a trip for the electric light girls and/or mom and i could spend a few minutes there...after all, they have ann taylor and restaurants everywhere...quite the temptation! so we saw the pirates of the caribean, part deux, dead mans chest and oooh that johnny depp is some cool pirate and i'm not the only one who thinks so. a group of youths were dressed in pirate gear and "damsel in distress" dresses and were on a mission to make pirates of caribean the new rocky horror picture show! and by the by the new trend is britches under your short short skirts with black hair for optimum effect and little black flats or converse high tops...uuh none for me thanks but i may show up sporting the pirate look someday in your future!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" side, some people will take a picture of anything! and speaking of art, not that i was speaking of art or that these pictures are art but the shark pic is kind of cool, don't ya think? but as i was saying, speaking of art, look at this art that has been installed on the main campus of cmu! and they're the smart people? hmmm. g'nite i gotta go...later...love g<a favorite local yarn store, bonnies knits, a few weeks back for the purpose of buying some hemp or similar yarn to make a belt for my mom. she has requested a beige belt to wear with one of her beige outfits. i was lucky enough to be there when a yarn rep was showing off his fall wares and it was very interesting and informative and fun and i got a chance to participate in the conversation. but i digress...i found this linen isle yarn made by plymouth and couldn't decide on a color so i bought both! mom likes the solid maize, which is really maize and cream color, very two dimensional and the texture is also two dimensional. i've started a belt which is knitted but doesn't look knitted...to me. the stitch is the same on both sides of the fabric which is nice for a belt.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" lovely checz glass beads which i've strung on the skein and think i'll make a second belt using the same stitch and adding these beads. i'm not sure exactly how the belt will be in the end but i'll figure it out as i go along. the fouth of july weekend for us has been busy. we've been to lake arthur for swimming and fishing, to my brothers for lamb on the grill...yummm, to the plant store for some carnivorous plants for the grandaughter and to the twin lakes arts & heritage festival to dance to the flo band and i had a private demonstration of spinning (yarn) on a spinner and on a drop spindle, i purchased some roving wool to give it a try...one day when i get the guy to turn me a drop spindle on his lathe! i posted my latest photo to the self portrait challenge, i'm feeling a bit political this week as i'm being surrounded with patriotic images and stories as it's the 4th of july. i noticed on the spc site that one of my photos was picked again! yea! i love that...check it out, click on the spc link on my sidebar. i have some flower planting to do today but the rain is steady at the moment so perhaps later...love g
well now i know...

what makes a car window go up and down! and no it's not the button, well not entirely. apparently there are these clips that hold the window and attach it to whatever holds the window, i didn't exactly get that part, and if they come off or break then the clips have to be glued back on to the window or it won't go up or down the motor will just whirr and whirr and whirr and do nothing. there is only a 50/50 chance that the adhesive will work, some times it doesn't and the only way to get new clips is to order a whole new glass...quite pricey i might add. so my window has been glued and i got a good deal, i just love day chevrolet's service department and not just cause they have do nuts either! they've been good to me for the last three cars. and they washed my car too! now that the window is fixed i'm afraid to use it anyway in case the glue doesn't hold and it breaks. ah well. i think i'll do some pricing on new glass in case it does break and go from there, maybe after the glue cures the rest of the day and night i'll use the window only if the weather man calls for NO RAIN! i was window shopping in the show room and found a gorgeous new monte carlo ss, i was tempted but i want to have my monte for a while longer! the guy took a few ganders at some suv's to replace the current suv which does not meet his expectations but sadly none of them are quite as good as the old roadmaster, may she rest in peace!

the only knitting that was done today was in the waiting room at the car dealer and i got a few rows of my latest sock done waiting for the final assembly of the door and car wash. i also got a little shopping done on the way home and got my free stamps from the foodland...it's thursday night you know.

the three year old is recovering nicely from his tonsilectomy, the operation went well and his prognosis is great, he was so troubled by his enlarged tonsils and adenoids that he is expected to be a whole different kid! i hope not too different because i think he is just such a cool kid as he is! but for now he just has to heal and drink! his sister will spend some time with us this weekend and hopefully we'll have nice weather and the guy will feel good enough to take in the twin lakes arts fest!!! love that art, love that junk food!!! they always have local hand spun yarn so since i've become such a knitting fool i may have to indulge! i'm hoping for a spinning demo as well! it's way past my bedtime so nite all...love g
<img width='1' height='1' i finished my third pair of socks and i like them!!! they are made from a cotton & wool blend yarn from regia. as i said this is my third pair. the first was all wool and very large but it was more or less an exercise and i liked it and my guy is nice enough to wear them ocassionally to please me! so i moved on to all cotton with some elastic and used a lacey pattern which was very pretty and the yarn was way cool but lacey pattern on socks is not my idea of a comfortable sock, especially since they were bulky enough that i would have worn them with loafers or tennis shoes or more likely with boots since i don't wear tennis shoes and these were just not me so i gave them to my mom who loves seamless socks and loves mauve...she must have the fanciest socks on the golf course! now these socks are just the right size and the yarn is very comfortable but...you knew there would be a but... when i cast on the second sock i made the stitches a wee bit tighter than the first sock and it's too tight on my leg unless i slouch them and they are too warm for me with the bit of wool in them but who cares i don't wear socks in the summer at all and i didn't make them for myself i made them for the guy and they aren't too tight on his leg.<img that? do i have fat legs? i must, i remember once my mom told me i had fat legs, never mind that everyone else asks if i eat or if i'm anorexic, she said i had FAT legs but come to think of it lately no one has said are you anorexic so...well anyway. the socks are done and they fit their rightful owner and i'm off to start another pair...and to watch the second half of the broken trail on examined, motorhome needs cleaned and de-winterized,and the grandson is getting his tonsils out next week and he really wants to be there with the daughter especially since the son in law is out of town...out of state...out of country! i used to eat vegetarian but selling that to the guy is another story. he likes his meat! due to the choking i've pretty much given up on meat, it's not just meat he chokes on but meat isn't good for you anyway so i'll start there. next stop chocolate! today we've had pancakes, ham salad, fudgsicles, and i'm currently making black bean soup and jasmine rice! the black bean soup has meat in it but i'm cooking the hell out of it so it's tender. i love black bean soup. we, the guy and i, are practicing being retired today. doing not-a-thing and we're quire good at it! i've listed some stuff to sell on ebay, put my last pop portrait up for the self portrait challenge, blogged, cleaned up a little and done the dishes from the past three days
