the fourth of july and plymouth...

yarn, linen isle to be specific. i visited my favorite local yarn store, bonnies knits, a few weeks back for the purpose of buying some hemp or similar yarn to make a belt for my mom. she has requested a beige belt to wear with one of her beige outfits. i was lucky enough to be there when a yarn rep was showing off his fall wares and it was very interesting and informative and fun and i got a chance to participate in the conversation. but i digress...i found this linen isle yarn made by plymouth and couldn't decide on a color so i bought both! mom likes the solid maize, which is really maize and cream color, very two dimensional and the texture is also two dimensional. i've started a belt which is knitted but doesn't look knitted...to me. the stitch is the same on both sides of the fabric which is nice for a belt.
the other color is a twist of maize and cream and black and purple and i have these lovely checz glass beads which i've strung on the skein and think i'll make a second belt using the same stitch and adding these beads. i'm not sure exactly how the belt will be in the end but i'll figure it out as i go along. the fouth of july weekend for us has been busy. we've been to lake arthur for swimming and fishing, to my brothers for lamb on the grill...yummm, to the plant store for some carnivorous plants for the grandaughter and to the twin lakes arts & heritage festival to dance to the flo band and i had a private demonstration of spinning (yarn) on a spinner and on a drop spindle, i purchased some roving wool to give it a try...one day when i get the guy to turn me a drop spindle on his lathe! i posted my latest photo to the self portrait challenge, i'm feeling a bit political this week as i'm being surrounded with patriotic images and stories as it's the 4th of july. i noticed on the spc site that one of my photos was picked again! yea! i love that...check it out, click on the spc link on my sidebar. i have some flower planting to do today but the rain is steady at the moment so perhaps later...love g
