this weekend i moved...

my blog, that is. moved it to a new spot, one where i'll be staying, for good this time. me and the guy we're quitting verizon ,we're sick sick sick of dsl. they said it was fast, yea right! problem is when verizon goes gaysknits.com goes with it, it was a freebie. i tried this blog out as a possible replacement and long enough to know i don't like it much either so i'm outta here too!!! fickle huh? i'm not taking all this stuff with me either, i'm moving only a few of my things from gaysknits to the new home and some redecoration may be in order but from now on visit me here! tata...so long...and later...love g

it's casual friday...

and the guy wins the prize this week! one day, a few years back, when we went to visit the daughter and kids, as soon as the almost four year old heard our voices in the stairway he ran out of his room clad in only a diaper threw his arms up in the air and motioning me to come into his room, said with glee "i been in this pig 'tye all day!" pig stye indeed! every single toy he owned was out of the toy box and off of the shelf and strewn about the place on the floor and on the bed. well it's casual friday and the guy's been in this pig tie all day! i just crack myself up! have a nice weekend, later... love g

look what i got...

in today's mail! this is lavold silky tweed in black with a gray fiber running through it and slubs of blue and rust and gray. did i say i love it? oh i do and hoped it would be this color you know? it was hard to tell from the swatch online but i was hoping for something to go with my new fryes and this is it! it's a lovely yarn too, silk, cotton merino, and viscose in just the right amounts. i thought it would make a great marilyns not so shrunken cardigan and it's the recommened yarn for that pattern. imagine that , i'm knitting from a pattern, that someone else wrote and i'm using the yarn they suggested. what next? i can't wait to start it but i'm making headway on my antique lace so i think i'll plug away at that for a bit more. i also have to print the pattern and my printer ink has run out so i'll order some and when it comes in the mail then i'll start this project! i won't be needing this sweater for a while, even tho it's appears that fall has arrived i don't think that's the last we've seen of summer yet! and i hope not i have a kayak to paddle before the snow flies! later love g

meet hobo....

he is a toad, a western pa river toad. the girl found him by the rail road tracks along the boston bike trail just a stones throw from the yough river and we adopted him and named him hobo. he is living in a 10 gallon aquarium beautifully decorated with mulch and river rocks and a pond of water where he is warm and safe in his cave burrowing in his mulch and staring out at the trees in front of the kitchen window and eating his fill of crickets!!!! we also looked at these kayaks, i bought one, the guy loaded it on the roof rack, the child jump seat was won on ebay and paid for with the proceeds of my old jeans and is on it's way. next stop the paddle store! then on to the water with it. i can't wait to try it out. this was a great deal and it's a great boat and should last us a long time and bring us a great many adventures with the grandaughter and with the boy who will be four this month . how did that happen? how did the two year old get to be four? and how did i get to be fifty four. and where did all this gray hair come from. well i'll take some more pics of my boat tomorrow and post them so you can see her in all her glory. mean while no knitting was done today but once again hospital knitting is scheduled for tomorrow...bright and early too so goodnite...sleep tight...don't let the bed bugs bite and hopefully hobo ate all those crickets or i'll be hearing from them all night! later love g

knitting in a kayak...

i wonder if that can be done. there's plenty of room and the only problem is keeping the project dry and of course paddling would be problematic and then there's the lace and the counting and the book how would that be kept dry and ok so it's a bad idea all the way around. and speaking of around i'm using my circular inox needles to knit this lace panel. don't try knitting lace on bamboo it's not not not possible. plastic isn't much better. so now i've made another decision...to buy the knit picks coated metal interchangeable circular needle set, or maybe to have someone buy it for me for my birthday or christmass. and another decision to buy a kayak...an orange ot sport kruzer to be precise. 11 feet sliding seat capability to add a child jump seat and 20 % off can't pass it up. the child jump seat is in the works..i have a bid on one on ebay as we speak! talk about the cart before the horse!!! but since i'm saving so much on the boat and on the jump seat i think i'll splurge and buy the paddles at dicks in robinson and get some cool color to match my new boat! i'm envisioning putting the four year old in the jump seat for a wild adventure on flat water! later love g

knitting on the edge...

of my seat. i've tried this swatch three times today, once last nite, on four different sized needles before coming up with the perfect combination and the fad classic had to be sacrificed to settle this! removed from her needles! left to lie in a pile of yarn in a hat box! that's ok tho it was destined never to be, for me anyway, didn't really like the yarn i substituted, loved the pattern and the stitch was fabulous but it was too big so...moving on. i'm finished with the body of my new sweater, have started one sleeve and have also started the edge. one repeat only though. which brings me to this question...who invents lace anyway? is it the criminally insane? i think it must be and they do it just to mess with those of us who will never see the inside of a prison cell. as i was doing this 6 row repeat on 9 stitches i was thinking why? how? who? but isn't it glorious when you get there! and how! i love this book. the guy bought it for me to surprise me one day for no apparent reason and i was thrilled. i've never used it before this except to look at it and page through it millions of times and to dream but this is the first time i've used one of the designs so i look forward to seeing just exactly how it is that i will attach this to my sweater. news at eleven. speaking of news the coast is flooding again and our weather is suffering with andrews passing. my brother and family are in the outer banks...bummer. the guys bike is back home hopefully good as new. the veterans car is totalled and mine is being used as a loaner for the week until the insurance claim is settled and he buys a new one. i think it's going to be a mitsubishi lancer but we shall see. i'm heading to mom's today to picture stuff for ebay. she's moving and consolidating and obsessing about all of the above so off i go to pick out some beautiful stuff for my mantle! later love g

she's here!!!!

chewy is here...see more pics here ! she's sooo cute but then again aren't puppies the cutest! she's very big and playful and loves the other dogs even tho the siberian's screeching nearly scared her to death! and the german...well he's stoic at best but not growly so an improvement over his usual disposition when faced with a threat to his place on the food chain (he's already on the bottom) and his place in my heart (the top)! and as soon as chewy growled and barked and howled at the siberian she settled down and faced the fact that puppies just can't be intimidated by bratty huskies! so our first meeting went well and we'll surely have another this weekend when the grandaughter comes over. she's been waiting and waiting and waiting to meet this little girl! i hear they call her chewy bear! later, love g

p.s. oh yea and the guy took like three little movies of this girl growling at the siberian and wrestling a stick and falling over herself but i deleted them from my files thinking they were out of focus pics! i'll get them later tho and the veteran can see em!
